Room one hundred and eighty-eight in the hall of Hayom Yom.

Thursday, 29 Iyar, 44th day of the Omer, 5703.

Shiurim: Chumash: Bamidbar, Chamishi, with Rashi's commentary.

Tehillim: For the 29th of the month, which is the last day of the month, we complete the entire Tehillim; we say both the shiur for the 29th and the shiur for the 30th, from chapter 140 until the conclusion of Tehillim, chapter 150.

Tanya: In the middle of chapter 52. The daily shiur is from the words "Aval hash'chinah" on page 73, and concludes on the same page with the words "hashemesh bilvad".

The source of the daily teaching is a letter written by the Rebbe Rayatz on 24 Nissan 5698. The letter is addressed to one of the tmimim who traveled then to the Holy Land, and the Rebbe Rayatz writes to him that he is constantly concerned for his situation, and hopes that the Holy One, blessed be He, will improve his situation materially and spiritually. Later, the Rebbe writes to him that the will of his father - the Rebbe Rashab - was that the tmimim be engaged in the tent of Torah, and details there various examples of what he expects the tmimim to engage in, each according to what suits him: this one will give shiurim, teach chassidus, serve as a mashgiach or madrich, and strengthen the yeshivos. And the Rebbe blesses them all materially and spiritually.

The Rebbe Rayatz, who wrote in the year 5698 how his father - the Rebbe Rashab - blesses the tmimim, wrote this many years after the histalkus of the Rebbe Rashab; for the Rebbe Rashab passed away in the year 5680, and 5698 is eighteen years later. Following this, the Rebbe Rayatz writes - and this is the content of the daily teaching - that even today, even though it is eighteen years after the histalkus, and the Rebbe Rashab is in very lofty places, he continues to bless and care for the tmimim who are here below.

And so he says: "The elevation of the soul takes place three times every day, during the three prayers". For every soul, even the soul of an ordinary Jew - when the descendants say Kaddish for the elevation of his soul - there is an elevation, three times a day during the times of the prayers; the soul ascends in the place where it is in the upper worlds. "And especially the souls of tzaddikim", which certainly have tremendous elevations in the higher levels, as it is stated "that 'they go from strength to strength'" - that they are constantly going from one level and degree to a higher one.

And even though the tzaddik is above in the upper worlds and has great elevations, the Rebbe Rayatz says: "And it is a certainty, that at every time and in whatever holy place they may be, they lift up song and prayer on behalf of those who are connected to them and to their directives and who keep their commands" - at every time, and no matter in what holy place the tzaddik is in the upper worlds, the tzaddikim pray, care, and bless all those connected to them. And what is the connection to them? Those who are connected to their directives and carry them out. The tzaddik blesses them and prays for them, "and especially on behalf of their students and their students' students, to be saved materially and spiritually". That is to say, all those connected to the tzaddik receive his blessings, and among them the students, the tmimim - certainly they receive the blessings of the tzaddik so much more.

Consequently, this is what the Rebbe Rayatz says to that chassid: My father - the Rebbe Rashab - even though it is eighteen years after his histalkus, how much he cares for you and blesses you, etc., with his blessings materially and spiritually. These are the hashpaos that the tzaddik gives to each and every one.

It is interesting to reflect on the sequence of teachings of the previous days, and including today and the following day: We have 27 Iyar, 28 Iyar, and now 29 Iyar - and there is an interesting matter in these three teachings. On 27 Iyar there is the hope that in the teaching of the next day an interesting completion to that point will come. This is the special sequence discussed in these teachings in these days.
