The daily teaching is a short teaching taken from a letter written by the Rebbe Rayatz on 15 Adar I 5698, to a chossid who was preparing to leave Warsaw with his family and move to the Land of Israel. He asked the Rebbe Rayatz whether it is right to do so, and the Rebbe writes to him that it is very right, and wishes them to reach their desired destination and settle, and merit shidduchim with the fathers of the daughters, and nachas, etc.; and then he gives him a directive on what to do before leaving Warsaw.
The Rebbe Rayatz writes to him that before leaving Warsaw he should certainly arrange a farbrengen in the shul. Let us examine the wording and its meaning: "Before the journey from his place of residence". In the original it is explained that the intention is Warsaw, but the Rebbe quotes the part relevant to everyone, and therefore does not mention a specific city, since this applies in every place.
""He should arrange a chassidic farbrengen, and receive a parting blessing from his good friends" - that they should bless him and wish him a good journey. And here comes an explanation. Seemingly there are two opposite actions here: on one hand, parting from friends, and on the other hand, gathering and holding a joint farbrengen. What, then, is the idea?
"And as the known saying goes, chassidim do not part because they never travel away from each other". Chassidim never travel and part in a way that each goes his own direction and they disconnect, Heaven forbid, from one another; "Wherever they are, they are one family". For if it were dealing with strangers, their connection would be situational - together today and tomorrow each going his own way, without connection. But when dealing with a family, even when one of its members travels far away and is physically at a distance - in essence he is connected, and is never far. This is the power.
As the Rebbe writes in one of his letters, which appears in "Nekudos Hayesodiyos", that the purpose of the farbrengen held before the journey is to ensure that they do not forget this saying, and to remember that physical distance will not cause a distance between chassidim. On the contrary, it is possible to draw down the hiskashrus, and if everyone is connected through the study of chassidus and chassidic conduct, the hiskashrus between them will be strengthened and it will truly be felt that they are one family. This is the purpose of the farbrengen - to bring about this feeling.
It is interesting to note that there was a farbrengen of the Rebbe on Shabbos Mevarchim Nissan 5717, when a trip of a group was planned away from the Rebbe to certain places. The Rebbe said: In truth there is no need to travel from here, there is never a need to travel from here; rather, there is a need to accomplish things in certain places, and for this purpose the physical body needs to be in a certain place and act. Therefore one travels physically, but essentially remains here - one travels there as someone who remains here; the journey is only physical and not essential. The chossid always feels that he is a prince, connected to the Rebbe and connected to the central place, and consequently everyone is one family and connected together, even if technically and physically one is in one place and another is in another place. This is the idea of the teaching.
