Chapter Eight Introduction This paragraph concludes the journey of (Part A of) the ‘body’ of the Rebbe’s mamor, which began with the Rebbe’s question at the end of CHAPTER THREE: “And we need to understand the connection between the explanation of ‘crushed for luminary’ to that which is explained (in the mamor) before this that Moses [and his extension in every generation] feeds and sustains the faith (of Israel of their generation) that it be internalized.
” In CHAPTER FOUR the Rebbe answered the connection of “crushed for luminary” with the “Moses of Each Generation” being that they empower Israel with self-sacrifice, which is primarily needed in the times of “crushed - broken and depressed” in exile. Then the question remained concerning the connection of “crushed to luminary” with that which Moses himself is “Faithful Shepherd”, feeding the faith of Israel with “Da’as” not in a time of “crushed - broken and depressed”.
Now the Rebbe concludes this journey with the answer to the connection and flow of the concepts explained in the Previous Rebbe’s mamor: (a) In the beginning of the mamor the Previous Rebbe explains that “And you shall tetzaveh the Children of Israel” means that Moses is to “connect” the children of Israel with the Infinite Light, through that which Moses feeds and sustains the faith of Israel. (b) That this applies also to the Shepherds of Israel (“Manifestation of Moses”) of each generation, such as Mordechai, who strengthened the faith of Israel to stand strong in Torah-study and Mitzvos-observance.
(c) That the meaning of “crushed for luminary” (which is a verse that is speaking of Moses himself - not of the Moses of Each Generation). The flow here is that this which Moses reveals the luminary (the Essence of the Soul) by Israel (through feeding and sustaining the faith of Israel) is primarily by the Moses of Each Generation, who awaken the potency of self-sacrifice by Israel, for through this (selfsacrifice) is the primary revelation of the “luminary - Essence of the Soul”.
Thus, first he explains the concept of Moses, who the verse is actually speaking of, explaining the “and you shall connect”, that Moses is the Faithful Shepherd - who feeds the faith of Israel that it be of the Essence of the Soul. Then he speaks of how the Essence of the Soul is primarily revealed through self-sacrifice, which happened primarily in the generations of the Moses of Each Generations of being “crushed” in exile.
Now the Rebbe asks a new question (that will be answered at the end of CHAPTER ELEVEN) concerning the order of the verse itself: According to all that we explained, that the “crushed for luminary” is specifically connected to the “And You shall connect the Children of Israel (to the Infinite Light)”, then why, in the verse, does the “crushed for luminary” come in connection with the “and they shall take to you pure olive oil”, which speaks of an addition of Light that Israel brings to Moses? With this the Rebbe is starting a whole new fascinating journey (Part B of the body of the mamor), one of total innovation!
“ 8) And in accordance with this (the difference between Moses and the Moses of Each Generation of the times of suffering, in how they each are the Faithful Shepherd in feeding the faith of Israel) we can explain the connection (order) of the concepts (explained) (in the mamor) (of the Previous Rebbe) concerning the explanation of the verse ‘And you shall tetzaveh…’, That in the beginning of the mamor he explains that the meaning of the ‘And you shall tetzaveh the Children of Israel’ is that Moses is to connect and bond the Children of Israel (with the Infinit Light) through this that he feeds and sustains the Faith (of Israel), And after this he explains that also the Shepherds of Israel of every generation (the Manifestation of Moses) strengthen the faith of Israel, as Mordechai (the Moses of his generation) who strengthened the faith of Israel to stand strong in Torah-study and Torah-observance, And after this he explains the meaning of ‘crushed for luminary’ (of the verse ‘And you shall tetzaveh, which speaks seemingly of Moses himself (not of the Manifestation of Moses within every generation).
” The Rebbe points out here in a parenthesis “which speaks seemingly of Moses himself”, which seemingly is already starting the answer as to why the Previous Rebbe is first explaining how this works by Moses himself. This is the order of the concepts explained in the Previous Rebbe’s mamor.
And this is the explanation as to why: “For this which Moses reveals the dimension of ‘luminary’ of Israel (the Essence of the Soul), is primarily through the ‘His (Moses’) Manifestation’ which are in the times of exile (‘crushed’), who awakened within Israel the empowerment for their self-sacrifice, for within this (the self-sacrifice) is the primary revelation of the Essence of the Soul, ‘luminary’.” Therefore, first he explains the concept of Moses, who the verse is actually speaking of, explaining what the “and you shall connect”, that Moses is the Faithful Shepherd - who feeds the faith of Israel that it be of the Essence of the Soul.
Then he speaks of how the Essence of the Soul is primarily revealed through selfsacrifice, which happened primarily in the generations of the Moses of Each Generations of being “crushed” in exile.
The Rebbe now asks a new question, which begins a whole new journey, which is an amazing innovation of the Rebbe: “ And we need to understand, for according to the above mentioned explanation, the concept of ‘crushed for luminary’ is connected to the ‘And you shall connect the Children of Israel’ (which we explained to mean,) that which Moses and ‘His Manifestation’ of each generation connect and bond the Children of Israel to the Infinite Light, However in the verse it states ‘crushed to luminary’ in connection to ‘And they will take for you pure olive oil’, (which we explained to mean) the concept of ‘And they shall take to you…’ (that Israel brings oil to Moses) is that Israel are adding an additional Light within Moses (as brought earlier in CHAPTER TWO of the mamor).
” Meaning, that seemingly, according to what we explained, the “crushed for luminary” should come in immediate connection to the “And you shall connect the Children of Israel”, of what Mose and the Moses of Each Generation, are giving Israel, and not to the “And they will take for you pure olive oil’, which is what Israel is giving to Moses”?! The answer to this question will be at the end of CHAPTER ELEVEN. Footnotes There are no footnotes on this chapter.
