Sukkah, Chapter 5, Mishnah 3. In the previous Mishnah we learned about the menoros - the great lights that burned during the Simchas Beis HaSho'evah. In our Mishnah we learn about the wicks with which those menoros were lit.
Let us turn to the words of the Mishnah:
"Mibeloei michnesei kohanim umeihemyaneihen" - from the worn out trousers of the kohanim and from their belts, priestly garments that had worn out from constant use.
"Mehen hayu mafki'in uvahen hayu madlikin" - from those worn out materials they would make the wicks, and with them they would kindle the lights and put them to use.
"Velo hayah chatzeir biYerushalayim she'einah me'irah me'or beis hasho'evah" - there was not a single courtyard in all of Yerushalayim that was not lit up by the light of those menoros, those exceptionally tall and large lamps that were kindled as part of the celebration.
In summary: In this Mishnah we learned that the wicks for the menoros of the Simchas Beis HaSho'evah were made from the worn out priestly garments - the trousers and the belts, and that the light of those menoros was so great that not one courtyard in Yerushalayim remained unlit by it.
